Kansas Wind Energy in Energy Information Directory

Wind power in Kansas is not a new concept. Ranchers continue to utilize windmills to fill stock tanks, just as their forefathers did during the 1800s. Recent research shows that Kansas ranks third in the nation for potential electricity production from wind power. Although the energy in wind is free, the equipment is not. Accurate siting, social and legal aspects, energy backup systems, system installation, and operating and maintenance are some aspects that must be examined before production is possible.
