The University of California Energy Institute UCEI is a multicampus research unit MRU that got its start in 1980. UCEI receives its base budget and program direction from the Office of the President of the University and carries out its research on the nine UC campuses and through CIEE the DOE Laboratories of the University. Severin Borenstein Professor of Business Economics, Haas School of Business, U.C. Berkeley has been the Director of UCEI since 1994. UCEI has a small research and administrative staff and is home to several students.
