An important National Academies project within the Division on Earth and Life Studies is assigned to the Nuclear and Radiation Studies Board. That study was started 60 years ago as the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission ABCC when President Truman directed the National Academy of Sciences to develop a study of the health effects in the Abomb survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In 1975, ABCC became the Radiation Effects Research Foundation RERF.
